In 1997, GMAC purchased the operating assets of LSI, a third-party servicer of auto and residential mortgage receivables and loans, and established Nuvell Financial Services LLC as a wholly-owned subsidiary in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1998, Nuvell created its Private Label division to leverage Nuvell's expertise in retail auto financing by offering a wide range of customized financial services to dealers franchised by private label client manufacturers and distributors.

Nuvell continued to expand with the acquisition of National Auto Finance Company Inc.'s operating assets in December of 2000. Nuvell created National Auto Finance LLC. National specializes in prime and non-prime consumer financing for non-GM dealers throughout the United States.

Nuvell has expanded from a single location in Little Rock, Arkansas and now has buying offices in Dallas, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida. In 2008 Nuvell moved their corporate headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida. Nuvell services GM dealers in all 50 states.
